Linda Moore: The wife of Lonnie Johnson? Lonnie Johnson grew up in Mobile, Alabama, where his father worked as a civilian driver at Air Force bases and his mother was a laundry worker and nurse’s aide. His interest in inventions began at an early age, when he built go-carts from lawn mower engines and created guns that fired projectiles under pressure.

Linda Moore’s Personal Life

As a child, Linda Moore lived in Franklin, Tennessee, where she and her brothers would go to the fairgrounds to watch racing. Her father owned a trucking business and her uncle P.B. Crowell was a champion race car driver at the Fairgrounds Speedway. He is credited with giving Darrell Waltrip his start in racing. He drove his No. 48 Chevelle Late Model Sportsman at the speedway.

Linda Moore is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and worked on her first U.S. Senate and presidential campaigns while in school. In 1988, she moved to Washington D.C. to work on Democratic Senator Evan Bayh’s campaign as field director. Later, she became the national deputy political director of the Democratic Leadership Council.

Currently, she lives in Franklin with her husband and their German Shepherd, Mike. The couple owns the historic Roberts House on 230 3rd Avenue South. They love taking their dog for daily walks around the town’s historic sidewalks.

In addition to her professional achievements, Linda Moore is a committed public servant. She has served on numerous local and state boards, including as the Chairman of the Georgia Alliance for Children and is a member of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta. She also contributes to charitable causes and writes articles for national publications. The couple has six grandchildren.

Linda Moore’s Career

Linda Moore has a long history of serving her community through civic and volunteer activities. She is a member of the board of directors for the Indiana County YMCA and the Talus Rock Girl Scout Council. She also serves on the advisory council for UT’s Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life. In addition, she was a founding member of the Jimmy Stewart 75th Birthday Celebration Committee and helped organize Indiana Borough’s 175th anniversary celebration.

Linda Moore is a licensed attorney and has more than 17 years of healthcare regulatory and legal experience including with Baylor Health Care System as Associate General Counsel, Cirrus Health as Chief Compliance Officer and Trinity Mother Frances as Senior Vice President/System General Counsel. Currently, she provides consultative strategic legal counsel on day-to-day operational and regulatory compliance matters to hospitals, surgery centers, free-standing departments and physicians on an of-counsel basis with a boutique healthcare law firm in Dallas.

She has an extensive background in public policy and government, having served on the staff of both Governor Jerry Brown and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. She has also worked for Senator Evan Bayh and was a leader in the Senate New Democrats Coalition. In addition to her work with the community, Moore has published articles in academic journals and has presented her research at national conferences.

She has also volunteered with numerous social work education-related organizations, including the Council on Social Work Education where she served as Site Team Chair for the CSWE Commission on Accreditation from 1999 to 2016. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Eastern College in St. David’s, Pennsylvania and a Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Linda Moore’s Family

Linda Moore’s family is her pride and joy. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are the light of her life. She also has two great-nephews and four nieces. She cherishes her time with them at their family camp in the Adirondacks. She loves spending time with them and used to say that “money is only as good as what you do with it.”

Her love for education was passed down from generations of her family and she was passionate about ensuring that all children have access to quality education. She saw this firsthand with her own children and the students she served at the Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School that she founded twenty six years ago.

Linda Moore has a long history of moderate Democratic politics, serving as Field Director for the Democratic Leadership Council and as a senior adviser to Indiana Senator Evan Bayh. She is currently CEO of the tech policy advocacy organization TechNet.

She is survived by her daughters, Tracey Moore Hall and Sherrie Linda Moore; her sister, Lola Whitehurst Vandiver; and her nieces and nephews. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, Mississippi has been entrusted with arrangements. Visitation will be Thursday, August 17 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 18. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family’s memorial fund.

Linda Moore’s Achievements

Linda Moore has been an influential leader in social work education. Throughout her career, she has served in a variety of leadership positions at Texas Christian University’s Department of Social Work. She also has volunteered with various social work-related organizations.

She has authored several books and a series of novels. Her latest book, Five Days in Bogota, features art gallery owner Ally Blake who is drawn into a money-laundering and art fraud scheme that threatens her family. The novel is available everywhere books are sold.

Lonnie George Johnson was born on October 6, 1949, in Mobile Alabama. His father was a World War II veteran who worked as a civilian driver at nearby Air Force bases. His mother worked in a laundry and as a nurse’s aid. He attended all-black schools. He graduated from Tuskegee University and became a top aerospace engineer for the U.S. Air Force and NASA. He was a master at making small inventions, including a pressurized water gun.

Linda Moore currently serves as president and CEO of TechNet, the bipartisan network of technology CEOs and senior executives that WIRED magazine describes as “tech’s most powerful advocacy group.” She has also served as a field director for the Democratic Leadership Council, deputy political director for the Clinton White House, and staff member on five presidential campaigns.
